Priority subjects

There is currently a shortage of teachers for middle years (7-14 or 9-14 years) and secondary teaching in England, and for secondary teaching in Wales in the following subjects:

  • mathematics

  • science

  • information and communications technology

  • design and technology

  • modern foreign languages

  • religious education

  • music

  • Welsh (only in Wales).

If you take a middle years or secondary course in any of these 'priority' subjects, you may be eligible for additional financial support during and after your initial teacher training. For more information, visit the Training and Development Agency for Schools website.
